Sensing and Responding

SENSING and RESPONDING is a CYCLE (alternating back and forth) which is essential to emotional and physical REGULATION.

SENSING and is the ability to sense internal and external conditions.
Within the Brain-Body, RESPONDING is the adjustment to keep functions in the desirable zone.

Between persons, RESPONDING is the ability to take action to meet the other’s needs.

The Parent-Child Attachment and Attunement Cycle comes from the Parent being able to sense and respond to the infant-child's needs - and from the Infant-Child sensing and responding to the Parent's mood and actions.
